The Fire Marshal serves as the Fire Official for the Township of Cherry Hil NJ. With the help of our Fire Prevention Specialist / Inspectors, the Fire Marshal is responsible for inspecting all commercial facilities and multi-family occupancies to ensure they are in accordance with regulations outlined in the Uniform Fire Safety Act of New Jersey, the National Fire Protection Association, and local ordinances. The Fire Inspectors serve as the Department’s representatives within the business and residential community, and, while seeking compliance with the fire code, also educate property owners in fire prevention methods (link to business fire prevention page).
The Fire Marshal investigates all fires and explosions that occur in Cherry Hill, interacting with local and federal law enforcement and other investigating agencies to ensure a thorough investigation of every such incident.
With the causes of these fires determined, and prevention in mind, the FMO then oversees the Department’s Community Education of Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness. From Fire Prevention Specialists to the firefighters in the field, the entire fire department takes responsibility in educating the public through various programs residential and commercial programs. One of the biggest initiatives includes the smoke detector inspection ordinance performed by our Fire Inspectors of all single-family residences that are up for sale. This ordinance, along with the Safe Home Program, allows the Fire Department to ensure that every home in our community, one at a time, is brought up to compliance on the installation of life-saving smoke alarms.
