Lower Dauphin Middle School is located in Hummelstown PA & serves the 6-8 students of the Lower Dauphin School District in Dauphin County PA.  Set on a 70-plus acre campus at the heart of our district in Hummelstown Borough, our 148,000 square foot Middle School opened in August 1995. With the active input of faculty and parents, architects designed and built the school around a middle-level education program designed by our own faculty to meet the unique needs and characteristics of children aged 10-14.
Sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders take their academic classes in separate grade 'pods,' each with its own locker area. The three grades share the centrally located media center, two computer labs,  one portable laptop lab, as well as the full-size gymnasium, cafetorium, two large-group instruction areas, and classrooms for art, music, family and consumer science, and technology education.

Teaching teams and interdisciplinary opportunities form the foundation of our middle school program.

Students spend their school days with the same 120 students rotating among the same team of teachers for their various academic classes. Each team operates as a 'school within a school,' and the teachers are empowered to make decisions about how to run their own teams. Under this teaching team structure, both teachers and students hold a high level of familiarity and accountability to each other. Teachers are able to view the 'whole' student, and can offer individual attention and personalized education. The team structure also encourages and provides for a high level of parent participation in a child's education.

Interdisciplinary units apply concepts and language from more than one discipline to examine a central theme, issue, problem, topic or experience. The goal of these units is not to replace the individual disciplines, but to help students learn and apply their concepts. These units are generally geared toward an entire team of students, rather than a single class.
