Human Resources is the central location for monitoring the employment of the approximately 1,600 full-time and 300 part-time positions within County Government. Employment opportunities vary widely. HR staff work cooperatively with the State Civil Service Commission in recruiting, testing, and hiring for the 300 positions in our human service agencies. Additional opportunities exist in social service, security, judicial support, and building maintenance.
Current job vacancies (see link on left) may be reviewed on the County's website. The office also maintains a job posting board and accepts employment applications from the public. All employment actions give full consideration to the County's Equal Employment Opportunity policies.
The department is responsible for maintaining employee personnel records and administering the employee and retiree benefit programs, training and development programs, and drug testing activities. HR staff also publishes the quarterly employee newsletter; assists the Commissioners in union contract negotiations; administration and development of County employment policies; employee salary and benefits plans; job evaluation and classification; and reviews employment practices for compliance with Federal and State labor laws and regulations.
Note: The Director of Human Resources is appointed by the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners.
